My name is Waad al-Kateab. I am a Syrian filmmaker. I now live in London with my family, but Aleppo is my hometown.

I have been overwhelmed by the positive reaction from people around the world who have loved my film FOR SAMA, related to my experience as a woman and mother, and wanted to do more. This has given me a huge boost to work harder and use the documentary to create awareness and push for accountability for war crimes. That is why I created Action For Sama, to turn the incredible reaction to my film into positive action for people living in opposition-controlled areas of Syria.

My film and the attention it’s gathering has the potential to engage millions of people around the world with the true story of civilians and of a peaceful revolution crushed with force.

I want to spread awareness of the suffering of those living under bombardment and support the heroism of Syrian civil society.

PLEASE JOIN MY ACTION FOR SAMA FAMILY TO INCREASE AWARENESS OF THE CONTINUED TARGETING OF HEALTHCARE FACILITIES IN SYRIA AND HELP ME BUILD PRESSURE FOR THIS TO END.

Thank you,

I know this is a difficult time for everyone. Our thoughts are with people all around the world and especially to our friends in Syria. I know we cannot do the screenings and events we had planned right now, but we are still doing as much as possible to support the people of Syria through campaigns and more.

I have been very honoured to be filmmaking again with Channel 4 News, including reporting on Covid-19 in the UK. You can see more about this below.

I wish for you all to stay safe. We hope to see you online soon and in person when the time is right.

afraa

My name is Afraa. I used to work in the education sector before the revolution. Now I live in the UK.

In Aleppo, I participated in the peaceful movement, and after Aleppo went out of the Alassad regime’s control, I decided to stay in order to provide any kind of help to the people, in particular the children. I was a part of the family you saw in the film, which represents everything I adore in the world.

Salem

Hello, I am Salem and I live in Gaziantep, Turkey.

The point of the revolution for me is to love all people, to ease their pain, to try to fight oppression and to build a better future for us and for our children. It is also to show the difference between Assad’s rule with all the horror, fear, injustice, and between the revolution’s principles and putting the neglected community in charge of their responsibilities…
