Who We Are
Action For Sama (AFS) is a Syrian-led campaign, advocating for human rights, dignity, and accountability for all.
Our team of passionate activists and campaign specialists devise creative ways to engage the public and decision-makers in support for the Syrian cause.
Through dynamic campaigns, compelling storytelling and thought-provoking film screenings, AFS aims to shed light on the lived realities amidst conflict and displacement, amplifying Syrian voices and experiences (spanning both within and beyond the borders of Syria itself), and ignite discussion and awareness on significant cultural moments within the Syrian calendar.
At the heart of Action For Sama’s mission is our pursuit of justice for war crimes committed in Syria and elsewhere, with a focus on the relentless attacks on healthcare facilities as displayed through our ongoing global campaign, "Stop Bombing Hospitals."
AFS is run by a small core team of five individuals, however, we draw great strength from collaborations with peers and partners, and are uplifted by the unwavering support of our ‘'Friends of Action For Sama’ - a group of dedicated volunteers who contribute their time and efforts to ensure our work is delivered with true impact.
Background
Action For Sama was born alongside the worldwide release of Waad al-Kateab’s critically-acclaimed documentary, For Sama. As Waad and Hamza brought the film to venues across the globe, there was one question echoed by audiences at each and every screening: What can we do?
This was not a documentary for people to experience, and then simply walk away from. For Sama was to be used as a tool for education, advocacy and action.
In the years since Action For Sama’s inception, it has blossomed and grown into a force for campaigning, gathering over 30,000 followers across digital platforms, forming various valuable partners and peers and earning support from prominent figures and celebrities.
In 2020 Waad and Hamza registered a new company “We Dared to Dream CIC”, which has become the umbrella organisation which Action For Sama operates under.
